Carol Lasek worked as a nurse for ten years, before deciding to go back to school for a degree in Finance. Her original intent was to equip herself with a business degree and thus pave the path for a career in hospital administration. It was not meant to be.

Upon graduating from Florida Atlantic University, Carol was recruited into the insurance business and “fell in love with it.” Realizing that this industry – much like nursing – would allow her to help people, Carol decided to change careers. Over thirty years later, she is a founding partner of Bienenfeld Lasek & Starr, LLC (BLS), and instrumental in connecting the firm to clients in the healthcare community and beyond.

“Working in financial services is simply an extension of what I did at the bedside; instead of tending to people’s physical and emotional needs, I help them with their financial needs,” Carol says. She adds: “I was never bottom line focused, for me it was always about helping people first. I never have actively looked for clients, yet today I am assisting the children and grandchildren of those I sought to help when I first started out.”

Carol’s capacity to nurture others fuels her activism in the Hollywood community. She is also very involved in the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Broward County as a founding Trustee, and has been a Lion of Judah for many years. In 2012, Carol was awarded the MS Hope Award by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, South Florida Chapter in recognition of over twenty years of support for their cause.

As an industry veteran Carol is frequently consulted for her experience in the traditionally male-dominated financial services field. “I try to mentor and counsel the young women who seek my advice,” says Carol. “My own daughter, Jenna, has decided to pursue this wonderful career, and I have the opportunity to guide her, too.”

Outside of work, Carol treasures spending time with her husband, family and grandkids. She loves to swim, travel and learn new languages. In moments of quiet, she grows orchids and tends to her butterfly garden. Carol is a member of the North American Butterfly Association.
